Projects
Like all Rotary Clubs, the Worthing Club supports individuals and organisations locally, nationally and internationally.
There are two committees of members specifically involved in this.
COMMUNITY AND VOCATIONAL SERVICE.
This aspect of Rotary service is concerned with how Rotarians can serve their local community, using where appropriate their special skills arising from their business or profession.
The types of activity undertaken include:
- Arranging Bowling for the blind and partially sighted
- Regular visits to care homes to provide entertainment
- Supporting charities such as ‘Hearing Dogs for the Deaf’ as well as local Worthing charities Sponsoring young people on youth leadership courses
- Organising a bi-annual Leisure and Hobbies Exhibition at the Worthing Assembly Hall
- Assisting with the annual district Disabled Sports Tournament
- Arranging for disadvantaged children to have a day out at Chessington World of Adventure, and also arranging a pantomime visit at Christmas
The Community and Vocational Services Committee also considers individual requests for financial assistance from individuals and local organisations.
INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE (With Rotary Foundation)
The International Service Committee work to relieve the plight of the disadvantaged of the world, and work towards making lives more tolerable for the many that have no other hope than gifts from the Rotary movement. We hold regular fund raising events in order that we can give to specified projects and causes.
A major part of our work is to support International Disasters and states of emergency where shelter / food and clean water are priorities. We also select projects that have low administration costs, that have ongoing self development prospects and where our support is going to make a real difference to people’s lives. We hold regular fund raising events in order that we can give to specified projects and causes.
Each year the committee decide on a programme of service, and whilst some projects change from year to year, many are ongoing. Project information is given to us by Rotary headquarters of Britain and Ireland as well as ideas from members and specific requests from other charities. More..
